1/02/10 - Nonprofit of the Year!
Dear Friends & Families,
Our annual Christmas celebration was a huge success, and all of the children received new clothes, shoes, a French New Testament, and toiletries. A delicious meal was shared between all, with enough leftovers to send home with families. Among the 230 people in attendance were the mayor of Kamina and various other local authorities.
After rehearsing for three months, the children's choir had their premier performances the week of Christmas at various churches. They were a big hit!
Much to our humble surprise, The City of Refuge has been named the Nonprofit of the Year in Kamina by the Greater Kamina Area Media Organization. This is quite an honor. Our organization was chosen because of the consistency of our feeding program, implementation of foster parent training, medical care and immunizations for the children, and our generous annual Christmas celebration and gift-giving.
As we begin the new year, we also have a special prayer request. Over the past few weeks, three of our children have been sick enough to require hospitalization. Two of them are recovering well, while one child remains in critical condition. Please pray the children may be comforted and receive a complete and timely recovery. We will continue to post updates on their status.
Happy New Year,
— Richard Kitumba, President

Scholarship Fund - Recycle!
A new scholarship program is enabling 10 additional youth who are not orphans to enroll in high school. Scholars have been picked based on financial need, character, and merit.
Funds for clothing, shoes, uniforms and 1st year tuition and fees have already been sent! Funds come from generous donors and COR volunteers collecting and recycling your bottles and cans! Thanks to these efforts, we now have enough money to fund 2 1/2 years of schooling for these youth. Our goal is to raise enough money to fund the full four years of high school, and eventually sponsor more scholars.
So - REMEMBER - bring your bottles and cans to the parking lot of Springfield Faith Center, 600 Hayden Bridge Way, on the 1st Sunday of each month between 9-1pm. You may also contact Laurene at (541) 501-2850 to request a pick-up.
Christmas 2009 - Thank you!
In addition to collecting funds for the Christmas celebration gifts, we provided an opportunity for you to donate to other special projects. Many of you took advantage of the chance to get involved in these ventures by sending donations earmarked for your desired projects. We cannot thank you enough. To date, funds are still rolling in. We will be posting final results soon!
