We thoroughly enjoyed seeing donors who turned out for this year's donor dinner. Thanks again to all of you who make this organization work!

Currently, we are preparing for our Annual Christmas Celebration. This is a big event for our staff, and a special joy for all of the children and families in our program. This year, we hope to make a special blessing to the community of Kamina by providing a Christmas meal for an additional 600 needy children, as funds allow. This would bring our total to at least 1000 children! Not only will the children eat, but so will their foster families and foster siblings. Each sponsored child and high school, and college scholarship recipient will receive a new set of clothing and a new pair of shoes. All of our foster families and children will share a special holiday meal.

This year, we are selling reusable totes with our logo on them to help raise funds for our Women's Empowerment Initiative, which has recently opened a sewing school for young women. Our totes are eco-friendly, and can be used for groceries, lunch boxes, school bags, purses, or whatever else you can think of! These bags make a great Christmas or holiday gift for loved ones.

Recognition by Springfield's Mayor - September 2011

Mayor Lundberg honored The City of Refuge International at a City Council Meeting. The mayor said, "Tonight, we acknowledge and thank all of you for your spirit, dedication and for bringing hope to children who had no hope. You embody the spirit and dedication we all aspire to achieve and we thank you for representing your city with honor and kindness. We are proud you are from Springfield." We appreciate the honor.

Congo Kids 5 K Run/Walk - September 2011

Thanks to all of you who participated in our first annual CK5K! With over 250 registered participants, our event was quite a success. We know this event would not have been made possible without the generous support of local businesses, individual participants, volunteers, and the talented marimba band, Shamwari.

First Annual Donor Dinner - October 2010

Thanks to all of you who joined us at our Donor Dinner Friday, October 22nd.

It was wonderful to see so many of our supporters in one room! Without the help, love, financial support, and passion from all of you, we would not be the organization we are today.

At the dinner, we had the chance to share about our trip to the DRC, show videos, pictures, and souvenirs, and to share a wonderfully-catered meal together.

We look forward to our continued partnership!

Congo Trip - August 2010

August 2010, six team members traveled to Kamina, DRC. The purpose of the trip was to meet and spend time visiting with all of the children and foster families, to visit the sites of the Agricultural and Livestock Development Programs, and to distribute special gifts to needy community members, including widows. Team members also participated in the monthly food distribution.
